Sunglasses
People scurry to work. The lady puts on her sunglasses. One man carries yogurt and a banana. The others are carrying bags or carry-on luggage. They don’t look at each other, they’re just trying to get where they’re going.
The woman has back-lit hair. The others have highlights on the edge of their heads and clothes. With those effects and the direction of the shadows it is apparent where the sunlight is coming from.

Super painting, Tom. I love all the proximity without any connections. That was true in a lot of work by Degas.

P.S. In your paintings it is always clear which direction the sun is coming from.
