We were returning to the home of our daughter and her husband. We’d been all over western Europe. Our son-in-law had run in the Stockholm Marathon, then we flew to Paris where we picked up their car. They lived in Cologne, Germany. On the way to their home we were driving through Belgium past an exit to Brussels when Will (our son-in-law) said, “How would you like some Belgian Waffles?” We made an unexpected stop. We went to the fabulous “Grand Place,” the square in downtown Brussels. We had our waffles but I was intrigued by the people, the sidewalk restaurants, the beautiful architecture and the overall feel of the place. This painting is my effort to portray the atmosphere from that day.
